Outdoor spaces, made for learning

Explore bespoke NOOK projects, each shaped around the school, its pupils and the space available.

The story behind each space

Every school and outdoor area is different. NOOK works with the space, the way it will be used and the ideas of the people who know the children best. From a simple sheltered teaching area to a more ambitious outdoor classroom, each project is designed around its setting and purpose.

Start with your school’s needs
We begin with a conversation about how you’d like to use the space, what you already have and what would make the biggest difference.
Designed around the space
A small corner, an open field or an area that needs a new purpose: the design responds to your site, your pupils and your priorities.
Made to be used and enjoyed
Shelter, seating, stages, work surfaces and natural features can all be considered. The details are shaped around the way your school wants to learn outdoors.
Small features, richer learning
Bug hotels, hedgehog houses and bird boxes with cameras can turn a corner of the school grounds into a place to notice, investigate and learn. These additions can be designed and built to complement the wider space.

There’s no fixed package. Each project is designed around your space, your pupils and what’s practical, so the result fits your school rather than a template.

“Our new outdoor space, designed by Ashley, inspires curiosity and gives the children more opportunities to enjoy the fresh air. It’s a welcoming place to play, create and learn together.”
